FieldServer Driver - Fieldbus
LonWorks Description: LonWorks driver is capable of accessing the network implicitly as a bound device or explicitly with its data transfers parameters gained from the FieldServer configuration file. The FieldServer gateway functions as a LonWorks client when it is the polling device, and as a LonWorks server when it is being polled.

The FieldServer LonWorks gateway is capable of being configured by network management packages such as LonMaker. As a minimum, a network management package is necessary to put the LonWorks FieldServer on the same domain as its communication partners, and provide a node address for the LonWorks FieldServer. In explicit addressing mode, the remaining data transfer parameters can be set up in the FieldServer LonWorks gateway configuration file. For binding (implicit mode), a network management package is necessary to create the bindings. It is possible to place a FieldServer into a Network for explicit communications without using a Network management device, but this requires intimate knowledge of the network in question.
The external interface file (.XIF) for the FieldServer LonWorks gateway can be uploaded from the FieldServer for the particular application.. The FieldServer LonWorks gateway differs from most other LonWorks® devices in that its XIF file is not fixed due to varying applications. The list of points available to the network will vary depending on the other networks connected to the LonWorks Gateway, and the requirements of the particular application. This means that the recommended procedure for obtaining the XIF file for the FieldServer gateway is to upload it.
