BTL Marked BACnet Gateway Solutions

The ProtoCessor FPC-FD2 BACnet Gateway, ProtoCessor/ProtoCarrier FPC-CD2 OEM BACnet Gateway and the ProtoNode RER BACnet Gateway are both BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) Certified. ProtoCessor and FieldServer were the first gateways to successfully pass BTL testing. Due to FieldServer Technologies' efforts with the BACnet Testing Laboratory, OEM's incorporating ProtoCessor BACnet gateway products into their device, can now achieve BTL Certification for their product without further reduced BTL Testing.
FieldServer, together with the ProtoCessor operation offers a full range of BTL Marked, BACnet gateway solutions:

BACnet Protocol

BACnet is one of the most popular open protocols used in the building automation industry and it is necessary for devices utilizing proprietary or other protocol to use a BACnet gateway to interface to the BACnet network.
BACnet is "a data communication protocol for building automation and control networks." A data communication protocol is a set of rules developed by the BACnet committee at ASHRAE governing the exchange of data over a computer network. The BACnet protocol rules take the form of a written specification (ASHRAE SSPC 135) that spells out what is required to conform to the protocol.
There are 4 different options for the BACnet protocol, each of which fills a particular niche in terms of the price/performance tradeoff.
- BACnet/IP - also called BACnet TCP which can run on a non-dedicated Ethernet line, also running at speeds from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps
- BACnet MS/TP (master-slave/token-passing) – a network designed to run at speeds of 1 Mbps or less over twisted pair wiring (RS-485).
- BACnet PTP (point-to-point) - an example of "local area networks" or LANs. Can be uses over phone lines or hardwired RS-232 connections.
- BACnet ARCnet – runs at 2.5 Mbps over a variety of physical media.
A key point is that BACnet protocol messages can, in principle, be transported by any network technology, if and when it becomes cost-effective to do so and FieldServer Technologies has the protocol gateways and drivers available for all forms of BACnet.
