EtherNet/IP Gateway

Allen Bradley EtherNet/IP -- FS-8704-14
FieldServer Driver - Ethernet

A communications interface solution for Rockwell Automation

Allen Bradley EtherNet/IP driver allows the FieldServer to transfer data from an EtherNet/IP enabled device. The EtherNet/IP driver encapsulates the Control and Information Protocol (CIP). CIP is a peer to peer object oriented protocol that provides connection between industrial devices and higher level devices. The EtherNet/IP driver can act as both a client and server. The Allen Bradley EtherNet/IP driver also diverts from the strict CIP protocol to make allowances for certain PLCs that require specific encapsulation message types (e.g. Logix 5550 PLC's)

Allen Bradley EtherNet/IP is an industrial networking standard that takes utilizes standard off-the-shelf Ethernet communication chips and physical media. Unlike many options in the industrial Ethernet crowd, Allen Bradley EtherNet/IP uses an open protocol at the application layer. Further, it is supported by multiple vendors and organizations. It is the only standard supported by the three major networking organizations: ControlNet International (CI), the Industrial Ethernet Association (IEA) and the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA).
