Family of Daughter Cards for Protocol Conversion

The ProtoCarrier solution allows the OEMs to rapidly add Building and Industrial Automation protocol translation support to new and legacy devices, without the time and expense of redesigning their hardware.

ProtoCarrier is designed for ease of installation and support by the OEM and their customer. FieldServer Technologies pre-programs the ProtoCarrier solution and maps each device to support the various protocols and configurations. The DIP Switches on the boards are for assigning the Mac address, Node-ID, and Baud Rate for RS-485 field protocols. No software is required to install the device in the field. This makes the device plug-and-play. There are two families of ProtoCarrier.

ProtoCarrier-FFP

  • Designed to be full featured, field programmable and with multiple protocol support. Supports protocol translation between Serial, Ethernet or LonWorks

ProtoCarrier-ASP

  • Designed for OEM's with cost-sensitive requirements who cannot redesign their hardware and have existing RS-232 or RS-485 interface.
  • Supports Serial to Serial protocol translation and/or general purpose I/O to various RS-485 protocols
  • If the OEM device already has a supported host protocol from the FieldServer library, the ProtoCarrier ASP can easily convert that protocol to any other FieldServer protocol
  • If the OEM does not have a FieldServer supported protocol then the ProtoCessor Simple Protocol (PSP) can be implemented
  • For a small fee, FieldServer can also implement any OEM's proprietary serial protocol.

FieldServer Technologies ProtoCessor is attached to the ProtoCarrier daughter card and the user has full access to the FieldServer driver library.
